“The fire was confined to the rear section of the building. It was under construction which is probably a total loss,” Platoon Chief Barry Evans said as crews battled the fire behind him. All construction workers on site were also safely evacuated.

The project manager of the construction, Evan Schinkel, said he noticed the blaze in the existing building and called for help at around 3:30 p.m.

“At that point the fire spread about 15 minutes later in to the addition portion,” Schinkel said. “Everyone was accounted for after the police were called,” Schinkel said.

Residents who had reservations at the hotel say they are being redirected to other hotels.
