NEAR ROCK CREEK, B.C. — The Ponderosa Music Festival was called off this year after the Rock Creek wildfire sparked a week before the show. The fire quickly blew out of control, forcing the evacuation of residents and campers in and around Rock Creek.

Now, organizers are asking ticket holders to forego their refunds, or the show may not go on next year.

The grassroots festival started in 2013 by Vancouverites Kia Zahrabi and Kris Hargrave.

“For us, we want get the message out there that this is not a corporate, massive festival,” says Zahrabi. “We rely almost exclusively on ticket sales [to put on the show].”

Zahrabi admits they’ve received a mixed response from ticket holders, but says they have received a lot of support from prior festival goers, bands and contractors.

“Some bands and other contractors involved have returned their deposit,” says Zahrabi.

Zahrabi wouldn’t get into specifics on how much it cost to put on the three-day festival or how much organizers need to make the show go on in 2016.

Ticket holders have until September 18 to request a refund, but Zahrabi says if most festival goers ask for their money back “for us to come back next year would be doubtful.”
