They were called to a house in the 7000 block of California Boulevard around 9 p.m.

“My daughter, she is 9,  she heard some shooting.  Her dad thought it was GlobalFest [fireworks] so he didn’t pay much attention,” says Kamal Sidhu, who lives nearby.

Next door neighbour Royce Gall says she saw emergency crews pull the victim from a black car that remained on the road in front of the home until about 3:00 the following morning.

“It was there on the slant. It was almost like it might have backed out of the driveway  in a hurry and what stopped it from going any further? I have no idea.”

The canine unit, SWAT team and police helicopter were called in but were unable to locate any suspects. A number of teenagers were taken from the home by investigators. Police say they are questioning a number of witnesses and working on a suspect description.

Neighbours say a family moved into the home where the shooting happened about a month ago.

Investigators do not believe the attack was random.

An autopsy is scheduled for early next week.
