SASKATOON – “I asked her, ‘Do you want to marry a millionaire?’”

That was the pressing question Rod Holinaty had for his partner, Verna Tremblay, after he checked their Lotto 6-49 ticket for the Aug. 5, 2015 draw.

Holinaty had just discovered they had won the $14.2 million jackpot.

“I saw a 14 and six more numbers behind it,” said Holinaty.

“I didn’t pay too much attention to what the other numbers were. After I checked it, I was stunned, I just took off. I wanted to get home.”

Tremblay had been bugging Holinaty to check the ticket.

“I knew the winning ticket was sold in Saskatchewan, and I had been bugging him to check the ticket,” said Tremblay.

The La Ronge couple said the reality of the big windfall is slowly starting to sink in and although they haven’t yet made any concrete plans, they hope to travel and help family.

“This amount of money lets you do anything and everything,” said Holinaty.

“We just plan to enjoy life.”

As for that wedding proposal? Tremblay said yes.
