Efforts underway to retain filmmakers in the Okanagan

KELOWNA – With so many aspiring filmmakers and animators launching careers in bigger centres like Vancouver and Toronto, efforts are underway to retain more of them here in the Okanagan Valley.

The Okanagan Film Commission and Kelowna’s Centre for Arts and Technology are teaming up and forming an educational partnership to strengthen the Okanagan’s  film industry and reduce the number filmmakers and animators from leaving the valley.

The partnership will help ensure that people, passionate about the film industry,  receive the quality training they need in their community.  The first event that stems from the newly formed partnership takes place in October.

A course and symposium on the motion picture industry, script writing, entertainment law, budgeting and pitching will be held October 22 through to October 25 at the Cove Lakeside Resort in West Kelowna.
