Federal Election 2015: Peace River-Westlock riding results

Summary: This is a new riding. Northern Alberta, formerly served by just two ridings, has now been split into three. There is no incumbent MP offering here.

Boundaries: Peace River-Westlock covers north-central Alberta. It includes the communities of High Prairie, Slave Lake, Fox Creek, Whitecourt, Barrhead and Westlock.

Last Election: In 2011, voters within the boundaries of this new riding voted 77 per cent for the Conservatives, followed by 13 per cent for the NDP.

History: This region has voted to the right of the political spectrum for decades.

Demographics: Aboriginal people make up 22 per cent of the population (as of the 2011 census), the highest figure in Alberta. There is an average of 1.3 children per household, the second highest figure in the province.

NDP: Cameron Alexis, former regional chief, Assembly of First Nations, former RCMP officer
