KELOWNA — Residents have been encouraged to limit water use for weeks given the dry conditions in the Okanagan, but as of Tuesday, the City of Kelowna has put odd/even outdoor watering restrictions in effect in support of the Provincial Drought Response.
That means city water utility customers with an odd home address number can water on odd calendar days and properties with an even address number can water on even calendar days.
“These outdoor watering restrictions will be in place until September 30 when the city will re-evaluate the need for restrictions,” says City of Kelowna spokesperson Tom Wilson.
The city says this is the first step for new water conservation restrictions for customers, and if the drought conditions get worse, there will be more restrictions and enforcement put in place.
Useful information for city water utility customers:
- All properties will be allowed to water on the 31st of the month.
- Automatic underground irrigation systems can run between midnight and 6 a.m.
- Manual sprinklers and watering by hose can occur between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. and midnight on the scheduled odd/even day.
