CALGARY- Friends confirm 22 year old Gurinder Dhaliwal has died after his vehicle plunged into a residential pond in the city’s northeast.

According to police his SUV was traveling westbound on Saddlehorn Drive NE around 10 p.m. on Friday, when it failed to make a turn at Saddleridge Drive and launched into the pond.

Bystanders rushed help the man, but were unable to pull the driver from the water.

The Calgary Fire Department was called and divers were able to free the man from the vehicle.

Dhaliwal was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash, but police believe excessive speed may have been a factor.

Dhaliwal’s friends say he was a non-drinker, a disc-jockey and an aspiring model.
