Truck full of frozen chickens goes up in flames on Alberta highway

CALGARY – A portion of the Trans-Canada Highway was shut down on Tuesday after a truck carrying a load of frozen chickens caught fire.

The semi trailer was travelling westbound near the city of Brooks around 11:30 p.m. when it suffered a mechanical issue, causing the rear of the vehicle to overheat and catch fire.

The fire moved quickly, engulfing the entire trailer and spreading to the ground beside the vehicle.

RCMP closed the westbound lanes of Highway 1 for about 90 minutes as fire crews battled the blaze.

No one was injured.
