SASKATOON – An overnight fire in Saskatoon displaced 14 people staying at a College Drive inn. Firefighters were called to the Inn on College just before midnight Wednesday for a shed fire.

Just as a single engine sent to deal with the fire arrived, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls that the fire had spread to the 16-suite inn.

Two more fire engines and an aerial ladder truck were dispatched to help fight the blaze.

Firefighters started an aggressive attack and searched the building to make sure everyone had evacuated.

Fire officials say crews had to use a combination of interior and exterior firefighting methods, including the use of a thermal imaging camera, to deal with the challenging fire. It was extinguished within an hour.

A transit bus was called in to provide temporary shelter for the displaced guests. Fire crews were able to retrieve many of their belongings and the Salvation Army found them temporary overnight accommodations.

Damage is estimated at $250,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
