SASKATOON – The hunt is on for the driver of a stolen truck who managed to elude police after driving over a spike belt. Mounties were checking an address in Martensville when they saw the 2014 GMC truck reported stolen Thursday evening in Saskatoon.

The driver took off when the Mounties were spotted.

A spike belt was laid out on Range Road 3052 just east of Martensville. The driver went over the belt and then through a field to evade police.

Mounties and Saskatoon police officers followed the vehicle tracks through Corman Industrial Park and then to the west side of Saskatoon where it was behind a residence. It has sustained significant damage from the loss of its front wheels.

Police have identified a suspect but are not releasing a name at this time as no charges have been laid.
