WINNIPEG — Food trucks will be heading to Winnipeg’s tourist hot spot this summer.

Starting on May 1 and running until the end of September, food trucks licensed with The Forks will be setting up on Israel Asper Way between the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and The Forks Market on what’s being dubbed ‘food truck alley.’

Eleven food trucks have been preselected to alternate throughout the summer at four designated parking spots and will be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.

“So we had some people approach us saying that they wanted to be a part of this, the thing is, we have to have trucks that will compliment the food we already have here,” The Forks’ Kristin Pauls said Tuesday.

“Each truck will bring something fresh to The Forks and offer our guests even more innovative and local flavours to choose from,” Andrea Clow, Manager, Leasing and Development with The Forks Market said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Pauls says there is a trend in Winnipeg, where people are seeking out new food experiences, and after seeing the success of the food trucks on Broadway, The Forks, thought they would also try to incorporate that into their tourist spot.

” Recently, people have just starting loving it more, and wanting to experience different tastes of little things here and there that maybe don’t come in restaurant form,” Pauls explained.
