PAYNTON, Sask. – An early morning fire has destroyed a Saskatchewan truck stop. First responders were called to the business just west of Paynton around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
They arrived to find the restaurant portion of the truck stop on Highway 16 engulfed in flames.
The motel side was not on fire and Mounties attempted to wake anyone in the building by activating their sirens. Police then attempted to gain entry to the building to ensure everyone was out.
Mounties went into one unit and woke an employee who told officers no one else was in the motel. The employee was not injured.
Paynton and Maidstone fire departments initially responded to the fire and crews from Paynton remain on the scene.
