CN conductor dead after accident at Saskatoon rail yards

SASKATOON – A CN conductor is dead after an accident at the CN rail yards in Saskatoon. First responders were called to the tracks by the Highway 7 overpass late Thursday evening.

The employee, who was identified as a conductor by investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, was working at the time of the accident. A Global News viewer said there were a number of first responders along the train tracks by the Highway 7 overpass with a train idling nearby.

The 51-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Royal University Hospital where he later died.

While police haven’t identified the deceased the Teamsters Union, which represents CN conductors, is sending online condolences to Kevin Timmerman’s family.

In a statement, CN spokesperson Patrick Waldron also said, “This is a tragic occurrence and our thoughts are with the employee’s family and friends.”

CN is not commenting further at this time.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed a team to investigate.

No other details have been released.
