WATCH: A third sinkhole opened up yesterday in Port Moody above the machine that’s boring the tunnel for the Evergreen Line. Jennifer Palma tells us how this latest setback has affected the neighbours.
UPDATE: Transportation BC says the sinkhole has now been filled. Drivers are being asked to follow detours.
Previous story:
Yet another sinkhole has opened up above the tunnel boring machine at the site of the Evergreen Line construction in Port Moody.
This time around, the sinkhole is in the middle of busy Clarke Road.
The tunnel boring machine is currently under Clarke Road at Seaview Drive as part of planned regular maintenance.
While completing maintenance, some ground material entered the chamber and an air pocket developed.
As a precaution to ensure public safety, a traffic pattern change has been implemented at Clarke Road and Seaview Drive while crews address the situation within a secure fenced area.
WATCH: Another Evergreen Line sinkhole opens up
One lane of northbound traffic is currently getting through.
Traffic signage is now in place.
This is the third such incident in Port Moody.
In late October a sinkhole formed above the Evergreen Line tunnel boring at Chateau Place, near to Cecil Drive.
In January, another sinkhole opened up above the construction, blocking off traffic.
