More competition for Winnipeg jobs after Future Shop closures

WINNIPEG — People looking for work will have a little more competition with the closure of Future Shop.

Two locations have shut the doors permanently in Winnipeg and across the country 1,500 people will lose their jobs.

“In the short term it means job losses and that’s not good for the economy,” said Michael Benarroch, with the Asper School of Business.

Michael Coleshill is worried about what all this means for him. He has been out of work since September and hasn’t had much luck finding employment.

He feels with more people now unemployed in the retail sector it will be even harder to find work.

“They all have very recent experience,” said Coleshill.
