Assault victim found along Trans-Canada Highway near Chestermere

CALGARY – Police are investigating after a woman was assaulted and left along a busy highway east of the city on Thursday.

A bus driver found the woman, just east of Highway 1 near Chestermere Boulevard at around 9:30 a.m. She was immediately rushed to a Calgary hospital.

Investigators believe the woman had accepted a ride from an unknown man in Calgary near 17th Avenue and 36th Street Southeast sometime between 4 a.m. and 6:30 p.m..

When the victim realized the man had driven her outside of the city, she asked him to take her home.

That’s when police say he attacked her.  The woman suffered numerous injuries to her face. Police do not believe she was sexually assaulted.

Investigators are looking for a man who is black and approximately 40 years old. He has short hair and was driving a silver SUV.
