CALGARY – Police have charged a 17-year-old boy in connection to a violent attack in Coventry Hills.
It happened around 4 p.m. on Friday, February 13th.
A man in his 30’s was walking his dog in the 0-100 block of Coverdale Place N.E. when he was approached by a group of youths who began verbally threatening him.
The victim tried to walk away, but was attacked by a 17-year-old who assaulted him with a machete. He was struck in the shoulder, back, head and face – and had his ear severed.
Several nearby residents heard the victim’s screams and came to his aid, calling 911.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say he required extensive reconstructive surgery.
The youth made off before police arrived on scene.
However, on March 14th, police arrested and charged a 17-year-old with aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of breaching current conditions.
His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
