Oil Kings down Blades 5-2 in WHL action

SASKATOON – Brandon Baddock opened the scoring on the power play and the Edmonton Oil Kings never looked back en route to defeating the Saskatoon Blades 5-2 in Western Hockey League action Wedensday. Brayden Brown, Mads Eller, Ben Carroll and Lane Bauer supplied the rest of the offence for the Oil Kings (30-28-7).

Mason McCarty and Kolton Dixon responded with goals in the second for Saskatoon (19-41-4). Nik Amundrud made 31 saves in the loss.

The Blades next game is Saturday in Moose Jaw when they take on the Warriors.

In other action, Zach Sawchenko kicked out all 33 shots he faced as the Moose Warriors shut out the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-0.

Jayden Halbgewachs and Brayden Point scored in the first period for Moose Jaw (27-32-5). Axel Blomqvist chipped in with a goal in the second.

Marek Langhamer turned aside 21 shots for the Tigers (40-22-3), as their three-game winning streak came to a close.

Rebels 6 Broncos 2

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Presten Kopeck struck twice as Red Deer dominated the Broncos.

Brooks Maxwell had a goal and three assists for the Rebels (33-21-10). Wyatt Johnson, Riley Sheen and Scott Feser also scored.

Coda Gordon had both goals for Swift Current (30-29-5), as it lost its fourth in a row.

Wheat Kings 7 Hurricanes 3

BRANDON – Peter Quenneville had a hat trick and added an assist as the Wheat Kings scored six times in the second period to rout Lethbridge.

Tyler Coulter, Braylon Shmyr, Tim McGauley and Duncan Campbell also found the back of the net for Brandon (47-10-7). Eric Roy added three assists.

Brayden Burke scored twice for the Hurricanes (19-36-8), with Tyler Wong adding the other.

Americans 3 Giants 0

KENNEWICK, Wash. – Nothing was working offensively for either the Vancouver Giants or Tri-City Americans after 40 minutes of play.

Lucas Nickles would change that 2:02 into the third period with a goal on the power play while Evan Sarthou stopped all 33 shots he faced as Tri-City went on to beat the Giants 3-0 and snap a four-game skid.

Tyler Sandhu would add a goal just over a minute later for the Americans (28-33-3) with Richard Nejezchleb adding an empty-netter.

Payton Lee turned away 27 shots in goal for Vancouver (26-35-3), as its losing streak extends to four games.

Tri-City scored once on five power plays while the Giants went 0 for 5.

Cougars 3 Hitmen 2

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Cal Babych scored the winner 20 seconds into the third period as the Cougars edged Calgary for their fourth straight win.

Jansen Harkins and Aaron Macklin had goals in the second period for Prince George (27-33-4).

Jake Virtanen and Radel Fazleev found the back of the net for the Hitmen (40-20-5).
