WATCH: Texas mom brings gun to daughter’s high school fist fight

TORONTO – A fight between two high school girls in Texas took a dramatic turn when cellphone video later revealed one of the girl’s mothers had crashed the brawl – with a gun.

Now, the pistol-packing parent is facing criminal charges, while the family of the other girl involved says they’re mortified about what might have been.

Victoria Myers, 14, said she showed up for a fight behind Pasadena High School in Pasadena, Texas, earlier this month.

She told KHOU News in Houston, Texas that the fight was over a boy, and that she had been challenged to show up by a girl she says she barely knows.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

When she showed up, she got quite a surprise: the other girl’s mom was there was well.

“I saw her and heard her,” said Victoria. “I didn’t know she had a gun until after I saw I picture of the fight afterward.”

Cellphone video shows the two girls throwing punches while the mother, 33-year-old Viridiana Alvarez, watches on with a pistol in her hand.

At one point, she appears to point the weapon at Victoria’s head.

“My stomach dropped,” Victoria’s father Ted Myers said about the moment he saw the cellphone footage. “I got nauseous and shaky.”

By the time police arrived to break up the scrapping school girls, Alvarez has tucked the gun away in her purse.

Alvarez has been charged by Pasadena Police with aggravated assault. According to KHOU News, she said the gun wasn’t loaded and was only meant to intimidate.

Both Victoria and the other girl involved in the brawl have been suspended, but Ted Myers said he’s just grateful the cellphone video surfaced to offer proof of the other mother’s actions.
