Opening of new Willowgrove schools delayed yet again

SASKATOON – The opening of two new schools in Saskatoon has been delayed yet again. Willowgrove Public School and the adjoining Holy Family Catholic School were scheduled to open in September 2014.

Construction delays pushed back the opening to the beginning of January. That date was then pushed back to the end of January or the beginning of February.

At the time, school officials said a number of construction milestones would not be met to ensure the schools could open at the beginning of January.

Officials now say they don’t know when the new schools will open. The delay means students originally slated to attend the new schools will continue to be bussed to other schools in the area.

Construction of the new $39.8-million education facility, which includes an integrated joint-use child care centre, started in September 2012 with an original completion date of April 2014.
