WATCH: Russian hockey player launches stick into stands after 5-4 loss to Canada

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the player who threw the stick as Vladislav Gavrikov. This has since been corrected.

TORONTO – After losing 5-4 to Canada at the World Juniors Monday night in Toronto, one poor sport on Team Russia threw his stick full blast into the stands at the Air Canada Centre.

As Team Canada gathered in its net to celebrate its first gold medal win since 2009, Russian defenseman Paigin Ziyat can be seen on video skating away before bending down and launching his stick into the crowd.

According to TSN, a fan was hit and reportedly met with police after the game.

TSN’s Twitter account BarDown also posted a photo from another fan that shows Ziyat throwing the stick. The fan said the stick missed them “by 2 feet.”

There is no word on whether 19-year-old Ziyat will be charged over the incident or if the IIHF will penalize him.
