EDMONTON – The six-year-old girl — dubbed the “Christmas Angel” — continues to recover from a brutal assault on Paul First Nation Saturday.
A family member says the little girl — who is not being identified — is now conscious. On Wednesday, the family spokesperson described her progress as “positive.”
“She is responding on her own, she’s sleeping and… I could see the beauty come back to her face — I’ll just say the energy — and it’s good to see that glow again,” adds the family member.
“She’s intelligent…and she’s smart and really energetic and I would say, for her age, she’s very strong too.”
Loved ones continue to visit the girl in the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.
A candlelight vigil for her was held on Christmas Day at Paul First Nation.
“She loves Christmas,” the family member says with a smile. “There’s been a lot of family come around and they’ve been very supportive.”

“We always talk about miracles and I would say this is one.”
The family is working on setting up a trust fund and is thanking Canadians for their emails, phone calls and other messages of support.
James Clifford Paul, 21, was arrested and has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping.
