SEABRIGHT, N.S. – Firefighters from several stations battled a blaze at an auto shop in Seabright on Saturday morning.

The fire, which broke at around 11 a.m., completely destroyed the commercial garage on Peggys Cove Road.

“When we arrived, we found the building fully involved in fire. It was coming out on all sides and all doors, including the roof,” said Tantallon station fire chief, John Cunningham.

Crews opted to battle the blaze only from the exterior because the fire was so aggressive.

“We had some challenges with this one just because of the size and the structure. There was some fuel oil that was inside that was burning, making it a little difficult,” he said.

Firefighters had to push the top sections of the building inwards, to prevent the walls from falling onto crew members.

Within an hour of the fire, the building had been reduced to rubble and crews were putting out hot spots.

Cunningham said someone was working inside the garage, when the fire started.
