Seth Rogen credits Sony for courage to release ‘The Interview’

TORONTO — At the world premiere of The Interview in Los Angeles on Thursday, Canadians Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg praised the head of Sony Pictures for backing their controversial comedy.

“I’d like to thank [co-chair] Amy Pascal for having the balls to make this movie,” Rogen told the audience at The Theatre at the Arc Hotel.

Security was tight at the premiere and media were not allowed to do interviews.

Rogen and Goldberg, both Vancouver natives, co-wrote and co-directed the film, which opens Christmas Day.

Filmed in B.C., The Interview has been harshly criticized by the North Korean regime.

In the movie, Rogen and co-star James Franco are enlisted by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

A message posted on a government-run website last month accused the film of “utter distortions of the truth and absurd imaginations” and called it “an evil act of provocation against our highly dignified republic and an insult against our righteous people.”

There has been speculation that North Korea was behind last month’s hack of Sony Pictures, which revealed embarrassing emails between company executives.
