TORONTO – Taylor Swift may have been one of the most talked about musicians this year, but Katy Perry topped YouTube’s list of the top trending music videos in Canada this year. The video for her single “Dark Horse” garnered over 715 million views since being released in February.
Nicki Minaj’s controversial video for her hit “Anaconda” came in second, with over 320 million views.
In fact, female vocalists came out on top, taking seven out of 10 spots on the list.

Meanwhile, comedy ruled the top trending entertainment videos of the year.
Jimmy Fallon’s lip synch battle with The Amazing Spider-Man actress Emma Stone topped the chart with over 37 million views.
Fallon also snagged the sixth place spot for his “Ew!” music video with will.i.am.
Two Canadian YouTube channels made it into the Top 10, including Unbox Therapy – a channel dedicated to unboxing and reviewing the latest tech gadgets. The channel – run by Newmarket, Ont. resident Lewis Hilsenteger – has over one million subscribers.
Unbox Therapy’s iPhone 6 bend test video placed fourth on the list.
