SASKATOON – Another dose of snow is slated to slide its way across the prairies Thursday and Friday. Last weekend, central Saskatchewan was pummelled with an Alberta Clipper system.

The incoming pacific frontal system will first bring heavy snowfall to parts of central Alberta Wednesday night, before spreading into Saskatchewan Thursday.

The first band of snow is projected to push its way into southwestern and west-central areas of the province early Thursday morning with lighter patches of snow starting in Saskatoon early in the day and heavier pockets reaching the region by midday.

Snowfall accumulations Thursday are expected to be around five centimetres in Saskatoon with another batch of five to eight centimetres falling by Friday night.

In total, the city can expect approximately 10 to 13 cm of snow to fall out of this system by the weekend.

As the second, more intense impulse of moisture moves in early Friday, winds will pick up across the region and reduce visibility on roads.

Travel advisories will likely be out late Thursday and Friday with poor driving conditions expected across southern and central Saskatchewan.

Temperatures are expected to hover at minus 10 Thursday in Saskatoon and in the mid-teens Friday before nose diving into the minus 20s for the weekend as an arctic airmass settles in.

Strong gusts at the end of the week will keep wind chill values in the minus 20s before they drop back into the minus 30 to minus 40 range through the weekend and into next week.
