TORONTO – The Toronto Police Services Board passed Chief Bill Blair’s request for a zero per cent budget increase for the coming year at a meeting Thursday night.
The 2015 budget will remain at $957 million with the hiring of an additional 56 civilian staff members and cutting uniformed positions by 43.
However, the costs for policing are still up in the air as the current collective agreement for officers expires at the end of the year and contract talks are scheduled to start soon.
The budget now goes to city council before it is approved.

Meanwhile, a decision on what to do with the controversial ‘carding’ report discussed at the board meeting Thursday will be deferred until the end of the month.
Chief Blair criticized the methodology and findings of the report which alleges police officers are carding young people near Jane and Finch despite being told in April to stop.
