WINNIPEG – Clarence Denmark was one of the few bright spots for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in their recently completed seven win season and he’s been rewarded with a selection on the Canadian Football League’s West Division All-Star team. Denmark was the only Blue Bombers player to be chosen as an all-star with kicker Lirim Hajrullahu and defensive back Chris Randle both passed over.
Denmark finished the season second in the CFL in receiving yards with 1,080 for his first career thousand yard season. In his fourth year with the Blue Bombers he also tied a career best with 65 catches. He also scored three touchdowns.
“I’m very appreciative of my teammates for helping me accomplish an all-star recognition,” said Denmark in a media release from the football club. “I feel Drew and I really clicked this season, and we are just looking to build off of that chemistry in 2015.”
Denmark recently signed a contract extension that will keep him under contract with the team through the 2016 season.
“Clarence is, hands down, one of the most reliable receivers in this league,” said quarterback Drew Willy. “He comes to work every day, works as hard as anyone in every facet of our day. He studies diligently, is a great teammate and someone we are very fortunate to have in our locker room. I’m very happy for him that he was recognized as an all-star.”
Former Blue Bombers running back Nic Grigsby was selected as an East Division All-Star after getting traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. That’s despite the fact Grigsby racked up most of his 890 yards rushing with the Bombers.
Edmonton Eskimos receiver Adarius Bowman was the only unanimous selection among 53 players chosen. The Montreal Alouettes had the most all-stars with 11 while the Ottawa RedBlacks were the only team to not have a player named as division all-star.
