Bus driver fined $500 in fatal crash near Biggar, Sask.

SASKATOON – The driver of a bus that hit and killed a woman north of Biggar, Sask. last winter has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

Edward Cumpstone, 63, made the admission in court Wednesday and was given a $500 fine, plus an $80 surcharge, according to his defence lawyer.

The crash happened on an afternoon in early February when the northbound bus hit a broken down truck hauling a cattle trailer parked on the side of Highway 4.

Monica Domes, 40, was standing by the truck and was critically injured. She was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Her twin boys were passengers on the bus.
