TORONTO – A UK couple looking at old family pictures said they were shocked to find a photo of themselves playing on the beach together as children.
Newlyweds Aimee Maiden, 25 and Nick Wheeler, 26, said they were going through a family photo album at Nick’s grandfather’s house last year when they came across the photo.
“The photo was taken by Nick’s grandad,” said Maiden in an interview. “Nick is sitting front right in the boat with his sister and two cousins and his family, his mum, uncle and nan are to the right and behind them. To the left and behind his cousin I’m in the blue swimsuit with my mum, dad and sister.”
In the image, six-year-old Wheeler is seen after making a sandcastle while five-year-old Maiden is seen playing in the background.
Wheeler was visiting Maiden’s hometown on vacation and the couple says that although the two spent the day together at the beach, the two families never spoke and the duo did not officially meet until 11 years later while attending the same school.
The couple got married last Saturday in a church just a minute’s walk from the same spot where their paths first crossed, 20 years after the photo was taken.
The pair said they are heading to Florida for their honeymoon and have promised “to frame the treasured picture as soon as they get back.”
