EDMONTON – Fire crews were called to deal with an ammonia leak Wednesday morning at the Lilydale chicken plant in south Edmonton.
The building on 56 Ave., near 97 St. was evacuated around 4:30 a.m.
“What had happened was a compressor…the main supply line to the compressor had ruptured. Hazmat was called in. They came in and there was an emergency shutdown,” explained District Chief Dale Rushfeldt, Edmonton Fire Rescue.
Emergency crews were able to ventilate the plant which allowed employees to return later in the morning.
Traffic was briefly disrupted in the area.
No injuries were reported.
