UPDATE: The BC Coroners Service has released the victim’s identity as Barbara Lynn Garrett, aged 69, of Penticton.
UPDATE: RCMP confirm the woman driving the SUV has died. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.
“The highway will be closed for several hours while Central Okanagan Traffic Services continues the investigation,” says Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Wade Severson.

PEACHLAND — Emergency officials are on the scene of a serious crash between an SUV and semi.
It happened at the intersection of Highway 97 and Trepanier Bench Road shortly after noon Thursday.
Police haven’t released details on the cause of the crash or injuries.
A witness on scene, Mike Sutton, was driving behind the SUV.
Sutton says the vehicle drifted over the centreline and hit the semi head-on.
A portion of Highway 97 is closed.
Southbound traffic is being diverted to Buchanan Road while northbound traffic is being detoured to Trepanier Bench Road.
