Add one, subtract one for Winnipeg Blue Bombers

WINNIPEG – On the eve of the Blue Bombers season opener against the Toronto Argonauts, the football club made a few minor adjustments, adding one player while subtracting another.

On his way out of town is quarterback Kolton Browning. The former NCAA standout just joined the team a week ago but was released to pursue a coaching opportunity, Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said.

The release leaves the Bombers with three QBs — starter Drew Willy, backup Brian Brohm and third-stringer Robert Marve.

The team also announced the signing of Canadian offensive lineman Gord Hinse. The 26-year-old was on the roster of the Edmonton Eskimos for the past four seasons. He appeared in 10 games with the Eskimos last year, earning four starts. The Esks drafted Hinse in the second round and 11th overall in 2009. He’s played in 44 CFL games with eight career starts.

But Hinse is nursing some sort of injury and the team immediately placed him on the six-game injured list. O’Shea didn’t want to get into specifics of his injury.

“He’s rehabbing and he was a Canadian O-lineman that was available,” said O’Shea. “We have to protect ourselves and have depth at that position.”

The Bombers host the Toronto Argonauts on Thursday in the league’s season opener.
