CALGARY – Calgary’s newest millionaire says one of her first purchases could be a dog for her daughter.
Maureen Fielding won the $5 million Lotto 6/49 draw on June 7th after picking up a ticket on the day of the draw.
She says she and her daughter used to daydream about what they’d buy if she ever won.
“My daughter reminded me that I had said if I won the lottery, I would buy her a laptop, a new car and a dog,” she said with a laugh. “We’re in negotiations over the dog.”

Maureen bought her ticket at the Superstore on Country Hills Blvd., and checked it the next day at a self-checker.
“I knew it was a big number when I checked it,” she adds. “I said to the clerk, ‘I think this is a big winner.”
“Her face turned a different colour when she checked my ticket.”
She says she plans to pay off some bills, and may also buy a new home.
