ICBC says they are running out of B.C. license plates with the current format, so a new format will be introduced this summer.
Starting in June, the insurer will start issuing license plates with a AA0 00A format (letter, letter, number; number, number, letter)
The change only applies to new number plates issued to passenger vehicles.
ICBC says red light cameras are already prepared for the new license plates.
The original AAA 000 format was introduced in 1970, and the switch to 000 AAA was made in 2001. The new format announced today is expected to last eight to ten years.
