KELOWNA, B.C. – Rail ties in Kelowna are being recycled ahead of any deal to sell or reopen the line.
Spur lines in Kelowna’s north end industrial neighbourhood are being removed to be transported for repairs on other CN lines.
CN Rail spokesperson Emily Hamer says the rails are not part of the main line.
Called ‘former siding’, the rails once serviced industrial customers, including a metal recycler.
Because the line was abandoned in July 2013, Hamer says no customers exist on the old Kelowna Pacific Rail tracks, now back under CN control.
Hamer says discussions continue with one interested party who has yet to submit a formal business plan to take over the line between Kelowna and Vernon, as he has expressed.
CN will continue to work with the unidentified businessman until June when the mandated process must shift to offer the line to all forms of government.
