Campus security warns students of possible voyeur at University of Calgary

CALGARY – Students at the University of Calgary are on alert after several people reported encounters with a possible voyeur on campus.

The first incident happened on Monday, April 7th around 12:30 pm.

The victim says she was followed by an unknown man from Swann Mall to the entrance of the Professional Faculties Building, near the west side of the Administration Building.

As she approached the doors to the Professional Faculties Building, the suspect approached her from behind, positioning a smart phone under her skirt.

When the victim confronted the male, he dropped his phone – which appeared to be on video mode.

He then picked it up and ran away.

Campus security sent out an alert to students after the incident occurred.

On Thursday, officials sent out another email warning of at least four additional incidents that were reported since Monday.

The email details an encounter that a female had with a man in the parking lot east of the EEEL building.

The victim was approached from behind by a suspect who appeared to have a smartphone in his hand, and pointed it up her skirt.

She confronted the man and pushed his hand away, at which point he ran off.

The suspect is described as 20 to 25-years-old, about 5’4” with a slim build and long dark brown hair, partially pulled back into a ponytail.

Calgary police say they are working with campus security on the investigation.

Officials ask students who feel uncomfortable walking alone on campus to contact Campus SAFEWALK at 220-5333.
