Woman fights for refund on undelivered products from deal website

TORONTO – Geeta Malhi bought several products from Dealticker.com, a “deal of the day” website, several months ago.

But not one of the items has been delivered in months.

“These products have a pretty good price so that’s why I bought them,” she said Thursday. “[I’m waiting for] all the items I’d ordered since December.”

She was patient at first, recognizing products generally take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive.

But after that, she recognized something was wrong and tried to get into contact with the company, Dealticker.com.

“I’ve sent numerous emails and I’ve gotten back emails but not giving me any proper response, just saying that [they]will be coming,’” she said.

She had been told some items could still be on their way but another, ordered in December, was discontinued and would not be delivered. She asked for a refund and was refused.

“They told me ‘well, we can’t because it doesn’t follow our guidelines,’” she said.

Global News reporter Sean O’Shea tracked the Dealticker office to an unidentified store front in North York and confronted Chief Financial Officer Daniel Abramov. He defended his company’s actions.

“We’re fulfilling [orders],” he said. “When there’s an item not fulfilled we issue a refund.”

While speaking with Global News, Abramov said he was “distraught” and felt “attacked” by the accusations his company was not fulfilling customer orders.

His company later sent an email explaining customers are eligible for credit if they seek a refund within seven days of the purchase date. But most customers would not have received their package in that time.

Abramov contacted Global News Thursday afternoon via email to say Malhi had been granted a full refund.

“While we strive to ensure that all customers receive their goods as soon as possible after purchase and are 100% satisfied at all times; there are instances when certain merchants are unable to deliver goods in the stated time-frames.

We address all queries within 24-72 business hours and ensure that any issues or concerns by our consumers are addressed and rectified on a case-by-case basis.

In regards to this particular customer, we have forwarded this customer’s order information to the respective merchants for the undelivered goods and while the customer’s orders fall outside of our stated refund policy, we have gone ahead and issued a full refund for all purchases dating back to December 2013.”
