The Comox Valley BC SPCA is continuing to warn residents after more tainted hot dogs have been found in Courtenay.

Leon Davis, branch manager of the SPCA, says at the beginning of the week they received a call that a resident had found another hot dog with pills stuffed inside.

This was after other homemade hot dogs with pills inside were found and turned in to the Comox branch.

Davis says the case has now been turned over to cruelty investigators, but a case like this is a tricky one to prosecute. “Unless we find a dog that’s been harmed by this, there’s no way of laying charges,” he says.

“But we are trying to find this person [who’s been doing this] and talk to them.”

Davis says they are pretty sure the hot dogs are laced with Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, both of which are toxic to dogs.

“There are clearly more out there and we’re telling people to be careful and be vigilant,” says Davis.

He adds that if anyone finds one of these tainted hot dogs, to bring them to the SPCA and not throw them in the garbage as they could be eaten by wildlife.

Anyone with information can also call the Comox Valley RCMP 250-338-1321.
