UPDATE: Police release identity of downtown stabbing victim

CALGARY – Police have released the identity of a man killed in a downtown stabbing on Friday.

The victim walked into the Delta Bow Valley hotel around 3:30 a.m. asking for medical help.

Hotel staff called EMS, who rushed the man to hospital where he later died.

An autopsy has confirmed 50-year-old Carlton Edlund suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed.

Police shut down 4 Avenue S.E. between 1st St. and Centre St. while they investigated, and the K9 unit was brought in to track the blood trail near the Harry Hays building.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Edlund is the city’s third homicide victim of 2014.
