Calgary airport now third busiest in Canada

CALGARY – It’s been a record setting year for the Calgary International Airport, which has become the third busiest airport in the country.

According to the Calgary Airport Authority, Calgary saw 14.3 million passengers either arrive at or depart from our airport in 2013, surpassing Montreal despite their much larger population.

It’s a five per cent increase from the year before, and there has also been a 2 per cent increase in the amount of cargo carried.

The numbers are expected to keep climbing, as the airport introduces a new 14,000 foot runway that will double the capacity for planes, and adds a new international concourse which will also double the size of the terminal.

“We are excited to see that growth,” says the Calgary International Airport’s Jody Moseley. “We are definitely getting the projects well underway and they will be open in time to meet even bigger growth we expect in the future.”
