Surrey man identified as victim of police-involved shooting last Friday

A Surrey man has been identified as the person who died following a police-involved shooting last Friday night.

61-year-old Gaetan Gilbert Plante was shot during an encounter with Surrey RCMP just before 10 p.m. on Jan. 17, near 98A Avenue.

Plante was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital but was pronounced dead soon after arrival.

The BC Coroners Service and the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) continue to investigate this death.
