B.C.’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate after a man was shot and killed by an RCMP officer in Surrey, according to the Independent Investigations Office. He has now been identified as a Surrey resident.
Officials say it happened at around 10 p.m. Friday night on 98A Avenue near 116 Street.
Mounties were called to a residence to check on the welfare of a man, according to IIO spokesperson Owen Court.
During the interaction with the man at the residence he was shot by a police officer, Court said.
The man was taken to hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
