SASKATOON – High winds swept across Saskatchewan on Wednesday, leaving widespread damage and power outages.
Power was knocked in several Saskatoon neighbourhoods and in rural communities as falling trees and strong winds brought down power lines.
Officials in Saskatoon said were prepared to handle potential power outages throughout the wind storm and responded to issues as they arose.
Wind gusts reached 107 km/h in Saskatoon.
Both public and Catholic school divisions in Saskatoon instituted a ‘Shelter in Place” for all elementary schools due to the winds. Students were kept inside to ensure their safety.

SaskPower is reporting power is out in Domremy, Birch Hills, Hagen and all surrounding rural areas and towns. There is no estimate on when power will be restored due to extensive damage from the weather.
There was also an emergency outage in Rosthern where it appeared a crane came down on some power lines.
In Saskatoon, a window in a downtown building was blown out and several others were compromised, forcing fire crews to do a safe reaction of the building.
The strong winds also tore the roof off a condo under construction and bent a cell tower.
The wind was too strong for West Wind Aviation, who cancelled most of their flights for safety reasons.
