Teen’s boyfriend arrested in Kamloops murder case

Kamloops RCMP announced an arrest Sunday morning in the case of a teenage girl who was murdered more than a year ago.

Sixteen-year-old CJ Fowler’s body was found in a Kamloops ravine near Guerin Creek in December 2012.

According to Mounties, a murder warrant was issued Thursday and 22-year-old Damien Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Kelowna the following day.

Formal charges have not been announced.

Mounties said Fowler and Taylor were known to each other and were in a dating relationship.

Fowler’s parents were in attendance at the 11 a.m. press conference and said they are relieved that someone has been charged.

Taylor is currently in police custody and is set to appear in court Monday. He is not considered a suspect in any other active or ongoing investigations, according to Mounties.

A man with the same name and birth date has a criminal record dating back to 2010 for offences in the Prince George and Vanderhoof area, including possession of a controlled substance, breach of probation and theft under $5,000, according to court documents.

Before her death, Fowler was recorded in a surveillance video, which showed her leaving the Royal Inland Hospital.

She was on her way home to Terrace and a had a bus ticket in her pocket when her body was found.
