TORONTO — Comedy legend Lily Tomlin celebrated the new year by getting married to her longtime partner Jane Wagner.
The couple, together since 1971, tied the knot on New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles.
Tomlin, 74, said last year she was anxious to get married to Wagner, 78.
“No rings, no bridal dresses,” the actress told E! last summer. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.”
A stand-up comedian, Tomlin is best known for movies like 9 to 5 and Nashville. Her character Ernestine the phone operator was a favourite on Laugh-In in the early ’70s.
Wagner is an Emmy-winning writer and producer.
California resumed same-sex marriages in the summer of 2013 after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Proposition 8.
The key to their 42-year relationship? “She makes me laugh,” Tomlin said.
