Parts of U.K still flooded, without power on Christmas

Christmas Day was wet, rather than white, for parts of England.

Areas of south and southeastern England were hit by floods and widespread power outages in the wake of a storm that pummeled Great Britain and France on Dec. 23 and into/through to Christmas Eve.

The storm packed torrential rains and hurricane-force winds, reaching 145 km/h, leading to flight, rail and ferry cancellations.

Reuters reported five people have died in storm-related accidents in Britain since Dec. 23.

One of those was a man who died while trying to rescue his dog from a river.

On Christmas morning there were still 37,000 customers without power and as of 7:30 p.m. GMT there were still flood warnings or alerts for 287 areas, including two severe flood warnings.
