TORONTO- Sera Mansueto started off as a residential painter but wanted to take her love of painting and interior design and “pay it forward” for those in need of a second chance.
“Walls of Hope is a volunteer organization that goes into peoples homes that have fallen on hard times, and we believe that through home renovations we can reflect the person that’s inside, the person that’s been lost through the difficulties that these families have encountered,” said Mansueto, founder of Walls of Hope.
She wanted to focus on families who need more than a little help getting through the season.
“Hope for the holidays providing totes full of house hold items to families so it can free up budgets, so they can actually celebrate Christmas with their kids,” said Mansueto.
Partnering with Reach our Centre for Kids and Lowe’s in Hamilton, Hope for the Holiday’s will help 63 Halton region families by providing them with a few of life’s basic necessities.
“Toilet paper, paper towel, even tool kits. There’s purses and jewellery and things that you know, someone when they receive it is going to feel like wow, they really thought about the small things,” said Paula Meissner, volunteer coordinator for Walls of Hope.
“Reach out Centre for Kids, is the largest accredited children’s mental health organization, and serves the entire region of Halton. A lot of our families, are lower income families. Sera has been an angel to us, and is providing some wonderful supplies. They may seem like little things to you and I, but to these families it means the world of difference” said Kelly Giuliani, Manager of Community Development at ROCK.
“It was a very emotional day because I remember one Christmas, specifically in my own life, I didn’t have money to buy my kids Christmas gifts and, when I saw all those bins that we had started delivering into the Reach out Centre for Kids, it just really touched me in the sense that I know what these basics mean to another family,” said Giuliani.
