The Grand Forks International Baseball Tournament (GFI) began in 1975. It has grown to be the richest invitational baseball tournament in North America with prize money of $54,000. The dates this year are June 27-July 2; 6 days and 25 games of high calibre baseball in a great ballpark. This is what a player from last year’s event said: “My time at the GFI is one that I will never forget. Being from Texas, I never believed I would have the opportunity to play baseball in Canada, and now after experiencing it in Grand Forks, I can say it is easily one of the most memorable of my life. Great crowds accompanied by great baseball made the games very exciting and I can’t wait to hopefully be back.” A Vancouver Province writer once said, “Looking for one of the best kept secrets in amateur sport? Try here.” The 2017 lineup includes teams from Texas, Alaska, California, Washington State and representing Canada, the 2016 BC Champions, Burnaby Bulldogs. The atmosphere is enhanced with the Hard Ball Café, the Right Field Tavern, Free Bingo at every game, the GFI Hall of Fame and Kids Run the Bases. The theme this year is celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday and Canada’s baseball history.
